Biography

Rob Cameron is a former Director General of Emergency Management Australia (EMA), where he was responsible for advising the Australian Government on disaster planning and crisis management, and whole-of-government response and recovery coordination.  In that role he developed and led EMA in implementing policies and programmes to better prepare Australia for disaster; coordinated the Australian Government’s response to crises such as the Black Summer Bushfires; and administered funding programs to assist Australian communities recover from disaster effectively. 


In a 34 year career within the Commonwealth public sector, including 10 years as a member of the Senior Executive Service, Rob’s previous senior executive roles include Assistant Secretary Crisis Management EMA (Attorney-General’s Department and Department of Home Affairs), and Assistant Secretary roles with the Department of Health in health emergency management and biosecurity, rural health services and outreach, and strategic policy.  


Rob was a Senior Fellow of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and serves on the National Emergency Medal Committee.


Rob and his wife Darian live on a small rural property in the Upper Lachlan Shire, near Crookwell, NSW
