Biography

Sophia Gaston is a London-based foreign policy analyst and a researcher focused on strengthening the resilience of advanced liberal democracies in the 21st Century. Sophia's research explores how best Britain can advance its core strategic interests, respond to the rise of authoritarian states like China and Russia, reinvigorate its closest alliances, and build public consent for an ambitious global agenda. She is recognised as an expert on the indivisibility doctrine between the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security theatres, and has authored influential reports and briefings on China, AUKUS, Transatlantic relations, and the UK’s security posture in Europe. For the past two years, Sophia has served as Head of Foreign Policy at the influential Westminster think tank, Policy Exchange, where she leads the AUKUS Industry Forum. Prior to this, she was the Director of the British Foreign Policy Group for over three years, having previously held senior leadership and research roles in other major UK think tanks and universities. In addition to her ASPI affiliation, Sophia is an Academic Fellow at the European Policy Centre in Brussels, an Expert Associate at the National Security College in Canberra.
